About PhD

The PhD research is mainly funded by external projects and doctoral schools.

The laboratory is responsible for VALUE graduate school and involved in RYM-TK and EnSte schools. Most PhD’s include full-time salary or grants from foundations. All students participate in undergraduate teaching.
Most students continue their research from their MSc thesis. For undergraduate students interested in a PhD, please contact one of the senior researchers in due time before your planned studies. Allow sufficient time to develop a PhD research topic.

In the unit the doctoral thesis supervision includes:

  • PhD students are part of networks in Oulu region and in Finland.
  • Exchange abroad is encouraged.
  • Study plans are developed in early stage in research and they are followed up regularly.
  • Research leads to scientific publications.
  • The research is directly related to current environmental issues.
