Peatlands and environment

Peat soils are typical for northern regions. They affect water amount and quality in many ways. They are also important in climate gas storage, uptake and release. Peatlands are used for energy, horticulture, agriculture and forestry. The laboratory is involved in many studies on I) peatland drainage and environmental effects, II) runoff water treatment from peat producion, III) peatland hydrology, IV) peat soil hydraulics, and V) nutrient retention in peatlands.
