Dress Code

Formal dress is required at the conferment ceremony. The following requirements apply to Honorary Doctors and their companions/escorts as well.

Sword-whetting (Sharpening of the Sword):
 
Doctor, male white tie & tails, white waistcoat (white vest)
Doctor, female evening gown (not black)
Doctor's companion evening gown (not black)
Doctor's escort white tie & tails, white waistcoat (white vest)

Rehearsal and Conferment Ceremony, Procession and Church Service:

All doctors are to wear the doctor's hat.
 
Doctor, male white tie & tails, black waistcoat, white gloves
Doctor, female black dress, long, long-sleeved, not décolleté, black gloves
Doctor's companion black dress, long, long-sleeved, not décolleté, black gloves
Doctor's escort white tie & tails, black waistcoat, white gloves
Guest male white tie & tails, black waistcoat or dark suit, academic dress (cap & gown), white gloves with white tie & tails
Guest female black dress, long or short, academic dress (cap &gown)

Conferment Dinner and Banquet:

All doctors wear the doctor's hat. The doctors who are awarded a degree on this occasion should also carry the sword.

Doctor's escort white tie & tails, white waistcoat
Guest male white tie & tails, white waistcoat

Sailing trip:

Casual dress, 'student cap' or equivalent

N.B.

All participants should wear major decorations at the conferment and at the formal dinner.
Those wearing formal dress at the conferment ceremony should not wear a breast-pocket handkerchief.

Please do not wear furs or jewelry during the Conferment Ceremony. The buttons of the female dress should be plain. In the dinner parties wearing jewelry is allowed.
