Introduction to Doctoral Training 920001J (1 ECTS)

Course description and instructions

  • This two-day course is organised in English twice year, on spring term in the Kontinkangas Campus and on autumn term in Linnanmaa Campus. The second day of the course day is optional, the course includes home assigments.

Doctoral training plan 920012J (3 ECTS)

  • Instructions
  • After principal supervisor and follow-up group approval, the Doctoral Training Plan (incl. research plan, career plan and study plan) will be officially accepted by the Doctoral Training Committee, and credits are granted.
  • This course belongs to the field-specific studies.
     

Follow-up group, reporting and meetings 920007J (1 ECTS)

  • The credit is given when the student has had all the annual follow-up group meetings and the thesis manusript is sent to pre-examination.
  • This course belongs in the field-specific studies.

Research plan seminar, unit-based code (1 ECTS)

  • Each doctoral student participates actively in research plan seminars during their studies. In the seminars, each doctoral student will present their research plan or part of their research.
  • The research plan seminars are organized by discipline, department, or doctoral programme. The responsible person for the major is the contact point to ask about the suitable seminar serie or courses.

Basics of University Pedagogy for Doctoral Students 920005J (2 ECTS)

  • Course languages are Finnish and English both in the atumn term and in the spring term.
  • This is an obligatory course only if you need university pedagogy training and you aim to include teaching in your study plan (check your study requirements).
  • You can include this in your obligatory general and transferrable skills studies, if more than 4 ECTS is allowed there.
     

UniOGS Mentoring programme 920015J (0 ECTS)

  • Continues through the whole semester.
     

Utilization of Patent Databases in research 920013J (0.5 ECTS)

  • The course is arranged once in autumn (in Finnish) and once in the spring (in English).
  • A maximum number of students is 25. The course is aimed at PhD students and senior researchers, PhD students have the precedence over senior scientists.
  • You can include this in your general and transferrable skills studies, if more than 4 ECTS is allowed there.
     

    IP Rights and Research 920016J  (0.5 ECTS).

    • The course is held once in autumn (in English).

    Communicating science to the media, general public and decision makers 920011J (1 ECTS)

    • Distance connection may be available.

    Scientific Communication 920010J (0.5 ECTS )

    The course includes three four-hour lectures and 5 hours of personal work. Students must attend at least two different lectures from the list below to pass the course and obtain the study credits:

    • Writing scientific journal articles
    • Writing a doctoral dissertation
    • Writing the compiling part of a compilation dissertation

    • The goal of the coaching is to create the concept of leadership in relation to oneself and one’s own activities.
