Faculty of Medicine – guidelines for a home university

Duration of the application support process

The application must be submitted for the support process of the Faculty by 31 March in the spring semester and by 30 September in the autumn semester. These dates are valid regardless of whether the target university has a continuous application process or an application procedure that takes place twice a year. The Faculty of Medicine reserves three weeks for the support process beginning on the abovementioned date.

Support process

The decision of the home university to support the application is registered in the application form at the Office of the Faculty of Medicine.

Criteria for the support and preparing a study plan

During the support process, the significance of the JOO studies in terms of the studies leading to a degree are considered in addition to the student’s study progress. The Faculty supports JOO study right applications within the limits of its resources.

  • The supported studies must be studies for a subject that cannot be studied at the University of Oulu, but which provide a minor to complement the student’s degree in a purposeful manner.
  • The supported studies must be included in the total extent of the degree. Studies exceeding the extent of the degree will not be supported.
  • The student must have completed at least one term of studies in their own field of studies.

Preparing a study plan

The student must prepare a personal study plan (HOPS) to be attached to the JOO study right application. The study plan must include a plan for the credits leading to a degree and reasons for the necessity of JOO studies together with a schedule for completing these studies. In addition to a study plan, a transcript of records must be attached to the support application.

Duration of the supported study right

Two academic years, but at most until the end of the period for completing the degree.
