There were 1425 applications for international Masters’ programmes in the University of Oulu this year. Deadline for applications was 25 January 2017. The number of applications went down by 15 per cent from last year, when there were 1673 applications.
This year, 87 per cent of all applications came from outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). Last year their share was 92 per cent.
The decrease in the number of applications was expected, because starting from this year Finnish universities are charging tuition fees for students coming outside EU and EEA.
”The University of Oulu is an international science university, and for that reason, a multicultural study environment and student community are important for us. It is delightful that there still are so many applicants from outside the EU and EEA”, says Rector for Education, Helka-Liisa Hentilä.
Tuition fee in the University of Oulu is between 10 000 and 13 000 Euros, depending on the programme. A student can get a grant from the University to cover the fee.
Changes in the number of applications varied between fields. Some international Masters’ programmes in technology received more applications than before, whereas some of the programmes in economics received less.
