The international consulting and engineering company Pöyry Finland PLC, and the University of Oulu have made an agreement on closer cooperation. Their cooperation agreement was signed at the University of Oulu on Tuesday 6 June 2017.
Pöyry wants to build long-term cooperation with educational institutions who have essential knowhow in the fields that the company operates in. Pöyry operates widely in different industry segments, in power production and distribution, and in the infrastructure of the built environment.
”The University of Oulu is one of the universities that we are especially keen to build a strategic partnership with. Oulu has education and research knowhow in the fields of technology, especially in construction technology and civil engineering. in mechanical engineering, process engineering, mining and concentration engineering, and in architecture. On the other hand, because the University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary educational institution, it can offer us knowhow on other fields as well, such as in humanities and economic sciences”, says Juuso Pajunen, CEO of Pöyry in Finland.
The areas of cooperation written into the agreement involve research, degree programme cooperation and development of work skills, and improving the image that young people have on the opportunities the field of technology offers for the future.
”I believe that this new cooperation model we are now building will let us achieve more than before together”, says business development director Mikko Hyytinen, who is in charge of the regional operations of Pöyry in Northern Europe.
”Partnership and doing things together is a central part of our renewed strategy and operations model. We are creating several new cooperation forms with companies. Pöyry is one of our partners with whom we want to develop this cooperation interface. The important thing is that cooperation will manifest itself in education and directly touch our students as well”, says Vice Rector for Education in the University of Oulu, Helka-Liisa Hentilä.
At the signing occasion of the cooperation agreement, CEO Juuso Pajunen presented the deed of donation by Pöyry to the Rector or the University of Oulu, Jouko Niinimäki. Pöyry Finland have decided to make a general donation to the ongoing fundraising campaign of the University of Oulu. “It is also in Pöyry’s interests that the University of Oulu will develop into an even stronger international operator in its areas of strengths”, says Juuso Pajunen of the donation decision.
The agreement on closer education and research cooperation was signed by Rector Jouko Niinimäki and CEO Juuso Pajunen.
