Fortum donates 250 000 euros to the University of Oulu. The donation is allocated in the field of technology.
The donation is a part of company´s program for the centenary of Finland’s independence. Fortum donates a total of one million euros to four Finnish universities. In addition to the University of Oulu the recipients are Aalto University, Lappeenranta University of Technology and Åbo Akademi University.
“We want to celebrate Finland’s centenary by looking forward and investing in Finland’s most notable strength, i.e. know-how,” says Arto Räty, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Communications, Fortum.
The University of Oulu is thankful for the support. The ongoing fundraising campaign result tops 9,5 million euros. The Finnish government´s matched funding increases the value of donation capital to 20 million euros.The government of Finland gives matched funding to support donations to universities by private foundations, companies and people. A donor may direct their donation of the minimum of 10,000 Euros to the development of the field of education they choose. The government’s matched funding period continues until the end of June 2017.
The donation capital is allocated to strenghen the research focus areas and the university annually distributes several millions to research projects and funds the work of a number of top scientists.
