National record in the number of applicants to international master's programmes

University of Oulu had the Finnish record number, total of 3 475, international master’s applicants during its two application rounds for programmes starting in autumn 2018. The number of applicants more than doubled from last year’s 1 414 applicants (145 % growth).

In the Finnish Joint Application period to higher education, 15 378 applicants submitted their applications to bachelor and master’s programmes taught in Finnish. This is the record number in the University’s history.

University of Oulu had the Finnish record number, total of 3 475, international master’s applicants during its two application rounds for programmes starting in autumn 2018. The number of applicants more than doubled from last year’s 1 414 applicants (145 % growth).

The most popular master's programmes are International Business Management (581 applicants), Computer Science and Engineering (404 applicants), Environmental Engineering (385 applicants), Wireless Communications Engineering (343 applicants) and Marketing (304 applicants). Altogether 330 places are offered in 20 international master’s programmes and double degree programmes. University of Oulu has invested in marketing and focused on applicant experience, which shows in the results.

Applications for the master's programmes at the University of Oulu were submitted from around the world. As in previous years, the greatest number of applicants came from Bangladesh and Pakistan. Some growth was seen from the USA and UK. About seven percent of the applicants are from EU and EEA countries.

Student selections for all international master’s programmes will be published by the end of April.

All new admitted students must confirm their study place according to the guidelines on the University website

15 378 applicants to Finnish-language study programmes

In the Finnish Joint Application period to higher education, 15 378 applicants submitted their applications to bachelor and master’s programmes taught in Finnish. This is the record number in the University’s history.

A significant growth was seen in health care and welfare programmes such as medicine, dentistry, logopedics, nursing science and health management. In addition to medicine, the biggest increase were seen in humanities (information studies 73%, logopedics 56%, Finnish language and literature 53%). Also, the numbers of applicants increased in several study programmes in technology. In the Finnish-language study programmes, altogether 2 116 study places are offered for applicants.
