Exhibition space

In the exhibition space you can get acquainted with research of the focus areas of the University of Oulu through touch screens. There are 9 to 12 different research projects presented at once and you can also find related exhibition material to familiarize with. In the exhibition space you can also get acquainted with low-carbon companies of Northern Ostrobothnia in the Virtual Showroom. The space is excellent for organizing even larger events and there are seats available for 60 people. It is possible to organize dinner or coffee events in the room. The large screen is suitable for showing video material and slideshows from the visitors' own computers.

Sara

Multifunctional space Sara is suitable for organizing different kinds of workshops, hackathons and small lectures. In the room you can find height-adjustable tables and chairs for 30 people and a lot of surfaces to draw on as well as equipment for workshops and sketching. There is also a 75 inch touch screen which you can connect wirelessly or with wired connection to you laptop or smart device. In Sara you can find a mini kitchen (with a sink, oven, dishwasher, coffee maker and an electric kettle). There is also a VR stop in Sara.

Vanamo

Meeting room Vanamo is suitable for organizing small meetings for max. 12 people. In the room you can find a 75 inch touch screen for presenting your own materials with a wired or wireless connection and a large magnetic board as well as workshop equipment for drawing and attaching. The room has a conference speaker (Jabra Speak 510). From Vanamo there is a beautiful view to the University of Oulu Botanical Gardens.

Science Garden common use facilities are primarily used by the university. External use must not interfere with regular operations of the university. Science Garden facilities can be rented out for use by companies, scientific communities, as well as public and non-profit groups, associations, and non-governmental organisations. The facilities are mainly rented out during normal operating hours of the university.

The use of the Science Garden facilities is free of charge for members of the university community when the purpose of the reservation is related to work or studies. Staff and students may not take advantage of community membership by making reservations for the organizations they represent or for private purposes. Reservation requests must always state the nature of the reservation.

Winter weeds - Grasses and herbs in winter

Is it possible to go on a plant hike in the middle of winter? Yes! Open your eyes to observe the structural adaptations that have evolved for the wintertime spread of plants. At first glance, they are repulsive grey, brown and blackened mummies of a bygone summer. But winter plants also have a story to tell.

Talventörröttäjät – winter weeds are dead grasses and herbs that remain upright through the autumn winds well into winter, even until the next growing season and at least some of the seeds do not shed until winter.

The slideshow in the lobby of the Botanical Garden of the University of Oulu is based on A-P. Huhta's photographic work Winter Plants — How to Identify 175 Winter weeds. Winter weeds do not compare to the color spectrum of summer plants. In contrast, plant organological, external structure adaptations of plants stand out more clearly in winter. With the help of winter crops, the miraculous secrets of plant fruit structure and seed propagation are revealed!

The stagnant beauty of the shapes and the simplistic simple design language of the winter weedscan only be seen during the glow of autumn and winter. It doesn't matter if the heart of winter seems to forever go on in January, February and March. Don't miss the summer.
