Religious contacts and religious changes: interdisciplinary investigation of site biographies of Sámi ritual places
The archaeological project "Religious contacts and religious changes: interdisciplinary investigation of site biographies of Sámi ritual places" addresses the topic of religious change and change in religious identity in Northern Fennoscandia. The emphasis is in the study of site biographies, that is the changing users and meanings, of Sámi ritual places. The site biograpy includes ambodied ritual practises, memories, social relations, and current use. These will be studied using archival data, interviews, and scientific methods, e.g. phosphate analyses. The project will combine data from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia.
