Academy of Finland FIRI funding and a grant from the Erkko Foundation to develop Biocenter Oulu Core facilities

Biocenter Oulu Protein crystallography core facility, a member of Instruct-FI and a node site of Instruct-ERIC receives Academy of Finland FIRI funding (290 000 €) to upgrade capacity in crystal imaging and to develop crystallography data management software IceBear for national and international structural biology infrastructures. The funding enables Biocenter Oulu to serve efficiently users in macromolecular crystallization and to collaborate with European synchrotrons in development of data management tools for researchers in structural biology.

Biocenter Oulu Transgenic core facility, a member of Biocenter Finland Mammalian Model Organisms platform, FinGMice, receives Academy of Finland FIRI funding (230 000 €) to upgrade tissue sample preparation for histological analysis in high spatial resolution and for 3D stereo-imaging to detect structural abnormalities in large mouse specimens.

In addition, transgenic core facilities of the FinGMice platform from Oulu, Turku and Helsinki receive 1,2 M € grant from the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation (400 000 €/unit). The nation-wide consortium will generate knock-in mouse models by CRISPR/Cas9 technology for selected syndromes of the Finnish disease heritage in order to provide new opportunities for the research community to study and understand disease mechanisms behind these devastating, highly progressive and often fatal disorders.
