The research group of Professor Taina Pihlajaniemi has received a 485 000 € grant from Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation for a project titled “Cell-extra cellular matrix interplay in cancer – New perspectives and translational potential”. The objectives of the project are to study how breast cancer and acute myeloid leukemia are controlled by specific collagens, and through in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies, define their translational potential as new prognostic and treatment-predictive biomarkers. The proposed studies are also expected to lead to the design of novel bioassays and therapeutics in collaboration with biotech companies.
