The research council of the University of Oulu has granted a significant contribution to the advancement of bioeconomy-related research infrastructures.
On one hand, the bioprocess engineering group obtained 107.000 € to upgrade its high throughput platform with novel screening and informatics data analysis equipment. Instrumentation is intended to be used for development of novel BIO-IT technologies. The acquisition will be made by Dr. Sanna Taskila jointly with Prof. Juha Röning from Infotech and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
The second investment enables the formation of Advanced Biocomposite Laboratory as a joint venture between Fibre and Particle Engineering (Prof. Jouko Niinimäki & Dr. Antti Haapala) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The 597.000 € investment from the University will enable the group to invest not only in state-of-the-art equipment for manufacturing and testing of various composite materials but also to upgrade its nanocellulose research related infrastructure, which can be considered critical in the composite material engineering research.
