The GeneCellNano flagship project is led by Academy Professor Seppo Ylä-Herttuala from the University of Eastern Finland and the Deputy Director is Professor Seppo Vainio from the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (FBMM), University of Oulu. The University of Helsinki, Aalto University and the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service are also involved. Participating research teams from Oulu are: Prof. Seppo Vainio, Prof. Peppi Karppinen and Prof. Lauri Eklund from the FBMM.
The Gene, Cell and Nano Therapy Competence Cluster for the Treatment of Chronic Diseases (GeneCellNano) flagship focuses on the innovation and commercial development of new biological drugs (so-called ATMP products), biomarkers and diagnostics for common chronic diseases.
The flagship program supports high-quality research and the resulting broad economic and social impact. The strong commitment of flagship background organizations to the operation and funding of flagships plays a key role in achieving the objectives.
The GeneCellNano is the only flagship affiliation to the University of Oulu, in this call.
