Best paper award to Mikko Perttunen et al. on their mobile road monitoring research


A recent publication on the road surface condition monitoring using mobiles phones by the Intelligent Systems Group has been awarded as the best paper within the 8th International Conference on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC-2011), held in September 2-4, 2011 in Banff, Canada.

The first author of the paper is Research Scientist Mikko Perttunen. The co-authors are Dr. Oleksiy Mazhelis, Dr. Fengyu Cong, and Professor Tapani Ristaniemi from the University of Jyväskylä, as well as Dr. Jussi Collin and Jouni Kantola from the Tampere University of Technology. Co-authors within the ISG are Mikko Kauppila, Teemu Leppänen, Dr. Susanna Pirttikangas, Dr. Janne Haverinen, and Professor Jukka Riekki.

The collaborative research is conducted under the Cooperative Traffic ICT SHOK research programme, launched in mid-2008. Professor Jukka Riekki is leading its sub-project called Sensor Data Fusion and Applications (SDFA). The SDFA project focuses on developing solutions for collecting and integrating sensor data to be used in the intelligent and innovative co-operative traffic applications.
