The Cultural Anthropology programme in Oulu specialises in northern cultures, contemporary cultural trends, cultural interaction, and environmental, medical, and applied anthropology

Our faculty members have studied, for instance, the transformations and adaptations of traditional economies, cultural conceptions of ideal bodies, and politics among the Shawnee Indians. We have long-standing interests in political economical/ecological study of the interaction between humans and their environment, in gender studies and body theories, and in cognitive analysis of cultural conceptions and worldviews.

We are cooperating in several research projects.
