The Cultural Anthropology programme at Oulu specialises in a number a fields pertinent to the study of human society, including Northern cultures, cultural interaction, cultural trends, and environmental, medical, and applied anthropology. 

Our researchers have studied, for instance, the transformations and adaptations of traditional economies; human-animal relationships; how technology mediates everyday life; and politics among the Shawnee Indians. We have long-standing interests in political ecology, political economy, human-environment interactions, tourism, conservation and the cognitive analyses of cultural conceptions and worldviews.
