DCE hosts World Wireless Research Forum Meeting 30 - theme: Smart Cities

Wireless World Research Forum Meeting 30 is organized by the Department of Communications Engineering and Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) under the theme “ Smart Cities” from 23 to 25 April, 2013, in Radisson Blu Oulu Hotel Convention Centre.

Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) is a global platform widely representing both telecommunications industry and research institutions. The organization aims to develop a common vision to future wireless and to promote research of wireless addressing solutions for key societal challenges. Twice-yearly meetings are an opportunity to meet and network with experts and take part in publications.

WWRF-meetings are arranged around a main theme. The three-day program consists of plenaries, presentations, and demonstrations. In Oulu, the city that has for the second time made it to the top seven intelligent communities of the world, the subject is, fittingly, Smart Cities.

The 30th WWRF meeting presents ideas, visions, plans and initiatives to improve the quality of life with the wireless communications. Experts representing academia, industry, and regulators, as well as related projects, will perform in the event. Afternoon session of the third day presents several ongoing research and development projects connected with the theme of Smart Cities.

Conference keynote speakers include:

• Afonso Ferreira, European Commission, Future & Emerging Technologies (FET) Unit
• Pasi Toivonen, Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA)

• Bror Salmelin, Adviser for Innovation Systems, European Commission DG CONNECT
