Students selected for supplementary kindergarten teacher education

The University of Oulu is launching a supplementary kindergarten teacher education programme in the autumn of 2012. The training will be provided subject to special funding awarded by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Applications were received from 77 persons, 49 of whom had the necessary qualifications. 41 of them were invited to take part in an aptitude test. The applicants were expected to have completed a certain amount of university-level studies in education but no qualification as kindergarten teachers.

Based on the aptitude test, 20 students have now been selected to take part in the training. The students will be majoring in education, especially early childhood education, and they will be completing a 180-credit degree of Bachelor of Arts (Education) and qualifying as kindergarten teachers. The programme is due to start on November 26, 2012 and it will be compliant with the early childhood education curriculum at the Faculty of Education. The duration of the training is two years.
