Special Education 25 ECTS credits

Basic Studies in Special Education are suitable for all who are interested in special education, learning difficulties and inclusive educational systems.

Special education is a discipline of education. It deals with encountering specialness in learning and teaching situations. As a subject, special education touches upon education, sociology, psychology and medicine. It focuses on an inclusive approach, how to enable teaching and learning for everyone in the educational system.

The lecture series and connected exercises and visits combine theory and practice as a fluent dialogue. The studies enable the student to give general and reinforced support and give him/her an idea of the requirements of special support. The studies support the growth into a teacher and special education teacher and for other professions that support learning.  During the studies, the student's own worldview is expanded and the diversity of life is seen in a new way.

Application Procedure

The students in the Faculty of Education can apply for the right to study a minor subject as part of the Faculty’s common application process for minor subjects to be arranged in the spring term.

The right to pursue studies in a minor subject is given for the next academic year. The duration of the right is one academic year.

For students from other faculties and those pursuing non-degree studies in a minor subject, the deadline for applications is August 15. They are given the right to study a minor subject for the next two academic years.

About 40 students are admitted annually to pursue studies in a minor subject. Preference is given to the students of the Faculty of Education.
