Approval of theses and maturity tests

1. Bachelor's thesis

Approval of maturity test

At least three weeks shall be allowed for the marking of the maturity test. The maturity test is taken on one of the general examination days. You can register for the maturity test as soon as the supervisor of your Bachelor's thesis has given you permission to publish the thesis. The supervisor checks the thesis for content and language, after which s/he submits it for registration to the Student Affairs Office.

Approval of Bachelor's thesis

Agree on the submission of your Bachelor's thesis with your thesis supervisor. The supervisor should be allowed about four weeks to mark the thesis. For assessment by the supervisor, the students in all degree programmes submit their theses in a single unbound copy to the Student Affairs Office. The supervisor checks the thesis, after which s/he submits it for registration to the Student Affairs Office.

2. Master's thesis

Approval of maturity test

At least three weeks shall be allowed for the marking of the maturity test. The maturity test is taken on one of the general examination days. You can register for the maturity test as soon as the supervisor of your Bachelor's thesis has given you permission to publish the thesis. The supervisor checks the thesis for content, after which s/he submits it to the Student Affairs Office.

The Education Committee made the decision on October 25, 2012 that no separate maturity test is taken any longer in connection with the Master’s thesis, as the test is replaced by the thesis abstract. However, if you did not do the maturity test in connection with your Bachelor’s thesis, you do need to do it in connection with the Master’s thesis.

Approval of Master's thesis

Four weeks shall be allowed for the marking of a Master's thesis  (University of Oulu Teaching Regulations, 21 §). The thesis supervisor issues a Laturi permission form to the Student Affairs Office, thereby granting the student the permission to upload the thesis to the Laturi system and proposing a second examiner for the thesis. The student then uploads her/his thesis to Laturi. For instructions, see http://laturi.oulu.fi/index.php?uilang=en-US. Please note that the student affairs secretary needs to have entered the details on your thesis into Oodi at least a day prior to your uploading the thesis to LATURI.
