Duration of the application support process

The application must be submitted to the Faculty for the support process by 31 March before 16:15 the latest during the spring semester and by 30 September before 16:15 during the autumn semester. These dates are valid regardless of whether the target university has a continuous application process or an application period that takes place twice a year. The support decision will be made within four weeks from the abovementioned date.

Criteria for the support statement and preparing a study plan

The resources allocated for this purpose are scarce. Each department pays for the costs resulting from the supported studies. The departments process the applications based on case by case deliberation.

  • The intended studies must produce additional value for the degree.
  • The supported studies must be such that cannot be completed at the University of Oulu.
  • The studies must be included in the minimum extent of the degree.

 
Preparing a study plan

The student must present a personal study plan (HOPS) as an attachment to the application. An official transcript of studies must also be attached to the application.

Length of the supported study right

Two academic years, but at most until the end of the period for completing the degree.

Delivering the supported application to the target university

The student shall receive their application with a support statement, after which the student shall send their application to the target university in order for the study right to be processed during the application period determined by the target university.

Registering the completed studies at the home university

The student is responsible for delivering the information on completed JOO credits to the student registry of the home university.

  • by 30th of September in the autumn semester to receive support for JOO studies starting during the following spring

Criteria for the support statement and preparing a study plan

  • The applications are supported in accordance with Faculty resources.
  • The applicant must have completed their first year of studies with good study progress (the criteria for the decision are based on the number of credits and grades achieved).
  • The studies must be incorporated within the minimum degree requirements.
  • An applicant may be granted a support decision for studies of max. 25 credits.

Preparing a study plan

The student must attach a personal study plan (HOPS) as an attachment to the application. Study plan must show how the planned studies will be included in the degree. An official transcript of studies must also be attached to the application.

Length of the supported study right

The study right is usually granted for one academic year. The flexible study right ends when the right for completing the degree at the home university ends.

Duration of the application support process

All support decisions – also those in continuous application processes – are processed only twice per year, in accordance with the application periods ending on 30 April and 31 October. The support decision will be made within three weeks.

Support process

A student needs to apply support by the home university with the JOO study right application form. The student must apply for the support statement at least one month before the application period at the target university ends. All support decisions are processed only twice per year, in accordance with the application periods ending on 30 April and 31 October. The expediency of each support decision will be considered separately, and the student cannot receive the decision while waiting.

Criteria for the support statement and preparing a study plan

  • The supported studies must be studies in the student’s major subject or minor subject that complement the student’s major. Supported studies are not available at the University of Oulu.
  • The expediency of the applied studies will be estimated, the applications are processed case by case, and the study right will be granted within limits allowed by resources.
  • The studies must be included either in the Bachelor of Science degree (180 credits) or Master of Philosophy degree (120 credits). 
  • The applicant must have completed a minimum of 90 credits, of which half must be in the major subject.
  • The applicant must have a minimum of 30 credits completed in the past year.
  • The suppoerted studies should rather form a whole component  (for example minor) instead of individual courses.
  • The Faculty may support only one whole at one time, even if the student had applied for several. In terms of individual study units, their expediency will be evaluated separately.

Preparing a study plan

The student must present a personal study plan (PSP) that has been approved.

Length of the supported study right

Until completing the degree or two years at most. The student must enroll as present every year.

  2. The supported studies must be included in the total extent of the degree. Studies exceeding the extent of the degree will not be supported.

Support for the application must be applied for at least one month before the application period of the target university ends. The support decision will be made within three weeks. NOTE! The Faculty of Education and Psychology supports only applications for the University of Lapland.

Support process

Before submitting the JOO application to the target university, the student must apply for a support statement for the JOO studies. The support of the home university must be applied for using the JOO application form. The student must apply for the support statement at least one month before the application period at the target university ends. The expediency of each support application will be considered separately, and the student cannot receive the decision before processing the application. When applying for a JOO study right, the student should consult their academic advisor or student counsellor beforehand. The applications to the University of Lapland can be processed with flexibility also outside application periods.

Criteria for the support statement and preparing a study plan

  • The study right is granted depending on resources.
  • The supported studies must be studies in subjects included in the HOPS study plan which are not available at the University of Oulu.
  • The studies must be included and accommodated within the span of the minimum degree requirements.
  • The student must have a minimum of 80 credits of studies, half of which must be in the major subject.
