Information about offered JOO studies

In principle, all courses belonging to the curriculum are offered. There may be exceptions, such as courses offered only for international exchange, courses provided by part-time resources, courses provided by another department or unit, courses requiring a great amount of resources, etc. Study rights will be supported based on case-by-case consideration. Departments will later announce courses that will not be a part of the studies offered as JOO studies under any circumstances.

Application periods for JOO studies

Twice per year. The application periods end on 30 April and 31 October. The processing takes approximately one month. A paper-based application form shall be delivered to the Faculty of Technology.

Criteria for granting study rights

Resources available, sufficient preliminary information of the applicant, case-specific consideration. An official transcript of studies from the home university must be attached to the application.

Length of granted study right

The study right is granted for two academic years at most. The flexible study right ends when the right for completing a degree at the home university ends.

The student must register at the target university in accordance with its standard registration procedures in order to use their study right. Further information on registration.

Registering the studies at the home university

The student will receive a transcript of studies. Otherwise the transfer of information to the home university is the student’s responsibility.

Information about offered JOO studies

An applicant can apply to all studies University of Oulu, Faculty of Science offers. In the decision of the study right the applicants prior learning as well resources of the study programme is considered.

Application periods for JOO studies

There are two application periods for JOO studies. Application period for studies starting in autumn ends in 30 April, and applicatio  period for the studies starting in spring semester ends  31 October. The processing time is approximately 1.5 months.

Criteria for granting the study right

  • JOO study rights are granted in accordance with resources.
  • The student must have sufficient basic knowledge or possible prior studies completed in a study unit.
  • The student’s study right application must include the support statement from the home university.

Length of granted study right

Until the end of the period for completing the degree, or two academic years. The student must enroll as present each year.

Information on offered JOO studies

All studies in accordance with the curriculum of the Faculty of Education and Psychology, excluding teacher training and studies aiming for professional competence in subjects taught in elementary school and early childhood education and preschool education.

Application periods for JOO studies

There are two national application periods (by 30 April for the autumn semester and 31 October for the spring semester). The application period is approximately one month, after which the decision will be delivered to the student. The applications from students at the University of Lapland may also be processed with flexibility outside application periods.

Criteria for granting study rights

  • The study right is granted in accordance with resources. The applications are processed case by case.
  • The faculty’s own students take priority when selecting students for study programmes within the faculty.
  • The student must have sufficient basic knowledge or possibly completed prior studies specific to the study units.
  • Support statement from the home university must be included in the student’s flexible study right application.

Length of granted study right

Two academic years, but at most until the end of completing the degree. The student must enroll as present each year.

The decision on granting the study right is made by the dean of education of the faculty based on the statement of the person responsible. All applications and decisions addressed to the profit unit are presented to the dean of education by the lead specialist.

  • 30 April for autumn semester courses 
  • 31 October for spring semester courses

  • JOO study rights are granted in accordance with teaching resources.
  • A student can apply for a study right for a whole study module at one time.  
  • The student must have sufficient basic information or possible completed studies specific to the study unit.
  • An official transcript of studies from the home university must be attached to the application.
  • The student’s study right application must include the support statement from the home university.

Length of granted study right

Usually one academic year. Maximum two academic years, and at most until the end of the period for completing the degree.

Application periods for JOO studies

Twice per year. Application periods end on 30 April and 31 October. The decision will be delivered to the student approximately one month after the end of the application period.

Criteria for granting study rights

  • JOO study rights are granted in accordance with teaching resources.
  • A student can apply for a study right for a whole study component at one time (e.g. basic studies 25 credits).
  • The student must have sufficient basic information or possible completed studies specific to the study unit.
  • An official transcript of studies from the home university must be attached to the application.
  • The student’s study right application must include the support statement from the home university.

Length of granted study right

Maximum two academic years, and at most until the end of the period for completing the degree.

Primarily via email to study.business@oulu.fi with the headline JOO application (no paper version by post needed).

Starting JOO studies

The student must be enrolled at  his/her home university while completing JOO studies. Instructions on enrollment in courses and starting studies will be given to the student via email in case of a positive decision on the JOO right.

Application periods for JOO studies

There is only one application period per year and the deadline is 31 May because JOO study rights are primarily granted for courses that begin in the autumn semester. The application will be processed within approximately one month after the end of the application period.

  • Sufficient language skills in language subjects, may require participating in a test
  • Study phase
