ADHERENCE TO SELF-CARE AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLES (AdherenceCare)
The research group is researching the effects of innovative interventions on adherence to health regimes and self-care among chronically ill and frequent attending patients. A further aim is to provide knowledge about the content and phenomena of adherence, and issues closely relating to adherence, using different types of research methods. Research teams is multi-disciplinary, including national and international partners.

Research group description
Research focus:
- evaluation of the effects of self-care interventions, technology-based and others
- factors, which predict good adherence with health regimens
- adherence of self-care and healthy lifestyle
- adherence with health regimens connection to quality of life, patient’s participation in care and activity in care and some medical variables
- interactive counselling in Digital Care Path to support self-care and adherence to treatment
- cost-effectiveness of the digital care path
- methodological issues (e.g. theory development – to create knowledge of nursing science, instrument developing and testing, content analysis)
Research materials include qualitative and quantitative data, psychometrically developed and tested instruments (incl. adherence with health regimens) and care-path models. The groups uses methods of theory development and testing, interventional studies, systematic reviews with meta-analysis/meta-aggregation, qualitative study with content analysis, and psychometrically validated instruments.

The research group is lead by Prof. Helvi Kyngäs. The group includes senior and post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and master students.
