The aim of the research is to promote health of the population by studying adherence to self-care and healthy lifestyles, counselling competence and health promotion especially in a digitalized health care environment, and on issues around them.

Research group description

The focus areas include:

  • Adherence to treatment as a concept and closely related issues
  • Effects of innovative interventions on adherence to health regimes and self-care, technology-based and others
  • Factors that predict and promote adherence
  • Lifestyle counselling competence and digital counselling competence in different contexts of social and health care sector
  • Lifestyle habits and health (sleep, nutrition, stress, weight management, alcohol, physical activity, digi)

Qualitative and quantitative methods as well as various types of systematic literature reviews (meta-analysis/meta-aggregation) are used as research methods in our group. We are also interested in methodological questions, such as developing and testing theories and models in nursing science. Further, we develop and psychometrically validate instruments.

The goal of our research group is to produce research evidence that is effective and meaningful. Through research of our group, it’s possible to promote health on a broader scale, in both primary and secondary level. Further, enabling adherence to self-care and healthy lifestyles.

Research team is multi-disciplinary, including national and international partners.

The research group is led by Senior Lecturer Anne Oikarinen. The group includes senior and post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, and master students.
