Lassi Rieppo
PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology (MIPT)
Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Rieppo acts as a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland. Dr. Rieppo received funding for his postdoctoral project (Quantum cascade laser infrared spectroscopic tool for assessment of the quality of articular cartilage) from Academy of Finland for 2017-2020. His research has focused on characterization of osteoarthritic changes in cartilage and bone tissues using microscopic techniques. Particularly, he has utilized infrared microspectroscopy to analyze tissue composition. Dr. Rieppo has also founded his own research group recently. His new research topics include spectral histopathology of skin cancers and spectroscopic research of blood coagulation cascade. In these projects, machine learning algorithms are applied to infrared and Raman spectroscopic data to extract biochemical information from tissues and biofluids.
