Innovation network operations
CHT develops multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder RDI cooperation models between regional, national, and international knowledge partnerships and digital health innovation networks.
For example, CHT is leading and developing the National Health Data Innovation Ecosystem Collaboration Network (HYTKI) for well-being and health data between five regions in Finland.
CHT is also creating synergies with European innovation partnerships, smart specialization strategies, and activities related to health data, as well as human-centered data management (MyData).
The aim of the network collaboration and outreaching activities is to enable joint activities and peer learning in data-intensive RDI. These partnerships and networks are there to support this goal, and CHT team can help also you in finding the right partners for your RDI project.

DigiHealth research programUniversity of Oulu’s strategic research profiling project: “Digitalized Solutions for Future Healthcare” (DigiHealth) is an interdisciplinary research programme aiming to develop and validate novel digital technologies for data-driven health applications, valorizing the University of Oulu’s strong expertise in medicine, wireless solutions, big data analytics, and business. Through a wider uptake of eHealth solutions, interoperability and cost-effectiveness, we are responding to bottlenecks in health care and services. Our role We act as a link and interface to and promote the impact of this scientific expertise. We offer dynamic R&D&I collaborative structures to build leadership in data-driven digital health. We offer easy access to a viable innovation ecosystem with a strategic collaboration agreement between academia, industry, and the public sector with a living lab for researchers in a real-life healthcare environment (OuluHealth ecosystem).

OuluHealth is one of the leading digital health innovation ecosystems in Europe. Members of the OuluHealth ecosystem represent the whole spectrum of health and social care, including specialized medical care, primary health, and social care, health and wellbeing industry, and commerce, health technology research and education, and citizens. The ecosystem is at the forefront of converging health and life science solutions with ICT. OuluHealth’s main goals are to accelerate the implementation of health innovations, boost the health-tech business and create better solutions for the benefit of citizens. Its activities cover collaborative research and innovation, testing and piloting, and business development. Our role In OuluHealth collaboration, we are leading the spearhead program “Data enabled solutions in preventive and supportive healthcare”, and we provide access to the latest knowledge, scientific expertise, technologies, and easy entry to multi-partner cooperation. We also facilitate the OuluHealth RDI process by bringing academia, industry, and healthcare providers together to solve the future needs in digital health and person-centric care.

The Well-being and Health Sector’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Programme (Hyteairo) The Hyteairo project, the Well-being and Health Sector Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Programme (#hyteairo) supports and speeds up the utilization of artificial intelligence and robotics in the well-being and health services operating processes. Hyteairo Programme is a joint programme between all parties for communication and development. Hyteairo is led by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in Finland (2018-2021) with the support of the National Institute for Health and Welfare. Our role In Hyteairo, we were building and coordinating a national health data analytics competence network and creating a model for peer-to-peer learning around health data analytics and data governance models. We were developing national Digi-HTA development and deployment work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, University of Oulu’s MIPT research group, and Finnish collaboration unit of HTA; FinCCHTA.

The purpose of MyData Global is to empower individuals by improving their right to self-determination regarding their personal data. It is based on the MyData Declaration. We act as a MyData advocate and have been active in building human centered data management concept (MyData) in Finland in collaboration with six universities, Open Knowledge Foundation, the Ministry of Transport and Communication. We are founding members of MyData health thematic group, MyData Oulu Hub, and MyData Global networks. Our role We led a large Digital Health Revolution strategic research project, combined researches from several fields with new perspectives, and multidisciplinary approaches pointing to a new direction in healthcare. In the project, we were studying the formation of the MyData-based service ecosystem with insights into technological, regulatory, ethical, service transformation, and business model research and development activities. During the project, the concept of MyData, as well as MyData principles, and technical architecture for MyData principles to meet EU-wide privacy regulation-related requirements were defined.

The European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance) The European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance) facilitates multi-stakeholder connections around ecosystems, drives sustainable change and disruption in the delivery of health and social care. Our role OuluHealth ecosystem, and us as part of it, is an active member (since 2012) of ECHAlliance.

The Digital Health Society (DHS) The Digital Health Society (DHS), an open multi-stakeholder movement, is both a Digital Health thought leadership platform and an Innovation and Implementation Factory. The basic concept is a movement aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of EU Citizens through the digital transformation of healthcare systems and Digital Health solutions deployment. The ECHAlliance International Ecosystem Network acts as a deployment arm for DHS. Our role We are an active member of the Digital Health Society’s (DHS) task force groups, especially in the Citizen-controlled Data Governance and Data Donors.

DigitalHealthEurope (DHE) is a H2020 Coordination and Support Action that aims to provide comprehensive support to the Digital Health and Care Innovation initiative in the context of the Digital Single Market Strategy. The project's approach involves a number of actions that will boost innovation and advance the Digital Single Market priorities for the digital transformation of health and care (DTHC). Our role We are actively contributing to the three priorities of DHE, with the main focus on the Citizen-controlled data governance and data sharing of DHE, which intends to provide comprehensive European Guidelines on Data Governance and Data Donation models and best practices. We are members of the expert forums of DHE and provide expert input to the three priorities of DHE via attending events, taking part in surveys, and validating and commenting on reports (white papers, guidelines, policy recommendations).

Smart Specialisation Platform Digital Innovation Hubs Digital innovation hubs (DIH) act as one-stop shops that help companies to become more competitive with regard to their business/production processes, products, or services using digital technologies and networking opportunities. DIHs are based upon technology infrastructure (competence centre) and provide access to the latest knowledge, expertise, and technology to support their customers with piloting, testing, and experimenting with digital innovations. DIHs provide business and financing support to implement the innovations, and regional multi-partner cooperation (including organizations like RTOs, universities, industry associations, chambers of commerce, incubator/accelerators, regional development agencies, and even governments). Our role We are providing R&D&I services as part of the OuluHealth Digital Innovation Hub (DIH). We are actively building skills and competencies in the creation of Health Data Assessment Framework for efficient exploitation of emerging technologies (like AI and predictive analytics), as well as in the creation of Health Technology Assessment Framework for mHealth, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics.

Smart Specialisation Platform (S3) Thematic partnerships Thematic partnerships of smart specialization strategies (S3) are instruments to support bottom-up collaboration between businesses and researchers along value chains across the EU. They foster interregional cooperation based on matching smart specialization priorities. The University of Oulu has been actively contributing to scoping and mapping papers in two S3 regional thematic partnerships: Personal Medicine and Medical Technology. Personal Medicine partnership is to realize the potential of personalized medicine by bringing a solid ecosystem that combines biomedical, technological, and data-driven expertise. The area aims to boost to realize innovative approaches for health and care. Medical Technology partnership is to boost investment and cooperation as well as facilitating, building, and structuring strong European value chains in the field of medical technologies. The aim is also to provide the best framework for designing projects and initiating ideas driven by industrial though collaborative inter-regional projects, which could be supported at European, national and regional levels. Our role We have been contributing to creating the mapping and scoping papers for these partnerships, as well as participating in the workshops and meetings, where the actual investment projects are prepared.

European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) is a bottom-up, multi-stakeholder community established by the European Commission in 2011 to develop innovative solutions in the field of active and healthy aging. This platform is a communication and information hub for all actors involved in Active and Healthy Ageing through Europe. It is the place to encourage partner engagement, promote news and events, meet and exchange ideas with peers, and look for potential partners on innovative projects. The city of Oulu is committed to investing in innovation for active and healthy aging and supporting the transfer and scaling-up of that innovation across Europe. The city of Oulu has been awarded the EIP-AHA reference site status with four stars and it is actively collaborating with other reference sites via twinning activities. Our role We have been facilitating the collaboration and networking within the EIP-AHA network as well as influencing the future direction of these activities. Maritta Perälä-Heape (Professor of practice) is a member of the Executive Board of the Reference Site Collaborate Network (RSCN). RSCN is an inclusive, private, non-profit network that accepts by default all the 102 Reference Sites that the European Commission selected in 2019. The overarching goals of the RSCN are to promote cooperation, share, and transfer good practice in the implementation and scaling up of health and care strategies, policies, and service delivery models.

The Nordic Health 2030 Movement is driving the transition of a fundamental shift from sick care to preventive health - to ensure the longevity of our healthcare systems and improved quality of life. By connecting and activating people across the Nordics to work together towards sustainable solutions, inclusive partnerships, and holistic thinking around health, the Nordic Health 2030 Movement can lead to healthier individuals and communities. The Nordic Health 2030 Movement was started following the creation of the Nordic Health 2030 principles and philosophy in 2018-2019. The whitepaper is a vision, process, and product of a gathering of over 30 leading decision makers across the Nordics during 2019, who all acknowledged the need for and the value in turning towards preventive health and agreed to develop a collaborative network for achieving this goal. Our role We have actively contributed to building a white paper of the Nordic Health 2030 Movement and the philosophy behind it. We are actively collaborating in the Nordic network to drive the transition. |
