Research Unit of Oral Health Sciences

The Research Unit of Oral Health Sciences at the Medical Faculty, University of Oulu comprises seven disciplines headed by a professor. In addition to research, each discipline is responsible for the basic dental education in their field as well as clinical and scientific postgraduate education.

The Unit of Oral Health Sciences conducts clinical and applied oral and dental research in collaboration with the other research units of the Faculty and with other domestic and international collaborating units. Main collaborating units are Oulu University Hospital and City of Oulu.

The research topics of the Unit of Oral Health Science are interdisciplinary and partly related to different disciplines in dentistry. In line with the strategy of the University of Oulu, the focus of research is life-long oral health and use of high technology in maintaining and promoting oral health. The Northern Finland Birth Cohort Studies are utilized in research projects. The Unit of Oral Health Sciences publishes about one hundred publications annually, 80% of which are international peer-reviewed articles.
