Sustainable Bioenergy Solutions for Tomorrow (BEST)
In this CLEEN and FIBIC joint research programme, NorTech Oulu participates in WP1 (Bioenergy scenarios and strategies in global and local scales) and WP4 (Enhanced business opportunities through securing sustainability) and is responsible for developing qualitative and quantitative assessment measures for social sustainability, assess the the social licence to operate, as well as perform horizon scanning for bioenergy social sustainability.
Sustainable waste management solutions for tourist centres in Lapland
The aim of this project is to propose tailor-made waste-to-energy solutions fitting for remote areas of Lapland.
Winter operabiliy of electric vehicles (WintEVE)
The objective of this project is to ensure the potential of electric vehicles (EVs) in Finland and maintain the role of Finland in EV development. Especially the winter conditions of EV use are in focus. Our role is to investigate the communication between EVs and smart grids, and the potential of feeding renewable energy to the grid.
Increasing the competitiveness of SMEs through energy efficiency
The objective of this project is to promote energy-efficient solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to increase their competitiveness. In the project, energy audits will be performed, energy efficiency demostrations and training conducted.
Green cities and settlements (GREENSETTLE)
The aim of this project is to encourage the development of green cities and settlements in the Republic of Karelia. The main target is to contribute to the long-term spatial development of the area by proposing a balanced progress of the economical and social requirements.

Enhancement of Oil Spill Response System by Establishing Oil Database
In this Kolarctic ENPI CBC project, the objective is to improve the mechanism of effective coordination between international response forces in case of emergency spills of Russian oil in the waters of northern seas, taking into account the prediction of oil behavior in cold environments.
