For 4th year in a row, Fab Lab Oulu has been one of the 63 labs all around the world teaching Fab Academy course. Fab Academy, inspired by the MIT course "How to make (almost) anything", is a fast paced, hands-on learning experience where students learn rapid-prototyping by planning and executing a new project each week, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments. In 2019, 247 students from all around the world participated in the course.
This year, 10 students, all of them members of the University of Oulu students/staff community, took part in the course. Students received local support and training from Fab Lab Oulu instructors. All our students gradated in June and had already received the diploma. Our Fab Lab have had outstanding results. While this year the average pass rate in the program has been of 58%, we managed to reach 100% graduation rate (for 4th year in a row). Since 2016, 27 students have graduated in Fab Lab Oulu.
Graduation ceremony took place in Egypt last July. Marjo, Lukasz and Gleb, three of our students could get the diploma in Egypt directly from prof. Neil Gershenfeld, director of the Center for Bits and Atoms (MIT) and responsible for the course
