OuluHealth ecosystem collaboration and projects

The Smart-RDI environment project is a continuum for OuluHealth ecosystem activities. The project promotes digital transition and the uptake of digital technologies and solutions. The aim is to develop the Smart RDI environment with its operating models and services. The new RDI environment of the OuluHealth ecosystem will promote digitalization and support the co-development of wireless technologies and virtual solutions, such as VR / AR devices and mobile services. This will be achieved with a strategic approach involving partnership between several target groups. The project activities bring together companies, researchers, developers and healthcare providers. The project responds to societal challenges, especially when creating novel digital path solutions for customers, and in developing new wireless, digital and data-led services and businesses.

National network cooperation, built in collaboration of the five regions, to foster data-led innovations in health and wellbeing

HYTKI builds service models that enable peer learning to support companies, research institutes, and municipal and city actors in execution of secondary use of data and usage of health and wellbeing data in their business, research, and service production.

HYTKI focuses on

• Identifying and making visible the special expertise of the participating regions

• Data on new product and service innovations, business, and new value as part of proactive healthcare and well-being also in urban development

• Operating models and capabilities of data utilization and analytical skills

The project partners are University of Oulu (coordinator), BusinessOulu, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, CEMIS, KuopioHealth co-op, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, and Turku Science Park. Project is funded through The Council of Oulu Region (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland’s support for thematic network collaboration), until the end of 2023.

The aim of the DigiHealth Knowledge Hub project is to increase expertise and capabilities in rapidly evolving health and wellbeing digitalization. The Hub accelerates research and innovation action on prevention, treatment, and personalized medicine, and it will speed up the adoption of digital innovations and the joint development of knowledge-based services.

The initiative is building operational models and networks for the digital health knowledge network, which is a functional support for research and innovation. It generates and disseminates information on best practices and opportunities in RDI collaboration and acts as a communicator and evaluator, thus accelerating the sharing of good research and innovation practices.

European healthcare systems and the general population generate vast amounts of health and wellbeing related data on a daily basis. The MIDAS project will develop a pioneering digital platform for healthcare policy makers. This will allow these decision-makers to tap into unstructured and unconnected healthcare data to better inform policy, reduce costs and improve health and wellbeing of the population. The MIDAS platform will investigate connecting patient data from European health authorities with individual data collected from apps, sensors and social media. Complying with the highest standards of data protection and ethics, the data will be analysed on the MIDAS platform, which provides a tool for policy makers to benchmark, simulate and forecast outcomes of healthcare policy decisions.

Co-Created Health and Wellbeing is a 6Aika project that develops the role of companies to operate as a co-developer of health and wellbeing services with cities, research organisations and other partners. This project aims to unite existing different development methods and to create concrete procedures for the businesses development as part of the co-creation of the health and wellbeing services. The project focuses especially on the service development of a proactive and active wellbeing. Key focus in Oulu is within piloting mobile solutions for health and welfare area.

Personalization of health care, health promotion, eliminating unnecessary costs, and accelerating convergence of healthcare and wellbeing business have become global megatrends in the health field. The goal of the multidisciplinary Digital Health Revolution project is to enable the utilization of health and wellbeing data about the individual as part of personal, preventive services. The approach is based on the MyData principles: human-centric data control and privacy, data utilization and an open business environment. The project outcomes include technological solutions providing easy access and portability of personal health data, as well as open environment business models, value chains and user-oriented service concepts in the healthcare sector.

Nordic university hospitals and hospital test beds vary in their methods and practices related to service production. The Nordic Test Beds (NoTeB) project will strengthen strategic and operational level cooperation on a Nordic level by creating an international collaboration network and providing companies access to 5 Nordic university hospital test beds. Companies are supported to test their health care solutions in realistic Nordic cross-border test bed environments together with care providers providing valuable feedback. The project will improve the implementation of new innovative and user friendly products/services in the health care sector. During the project a practical guide about the best operation practices related to healthcare product testing in the Nordic countries will also be created.

New technological service solutions are needed for several ongoing Future Hospital programmes in Finland. WILLE project aims to create a service co-creation platform to enable the co-design of novel digital services for hospital environment together with health care industry, end-users (healthcare professionals, patients, families) and researchers. The development of platform is supported by dynamic business modelling validated through two specific use cases in which novel technology solutions for 1) children surgery path from home to hospital and back home and 2) emergency & ambulance care are studied. The project will support the development of user-driven innovative service concepts for future hospitals.

YSI project aims to enhance the operations model to find and evaluate hospital born innovations, and to bring those to new business. In addition, the aim is to support the hospital environment as platform to create and test new services, solutions and products in real environments. Project pilots will be carried out in the University hospitals of Turku and Oulu. The project is funded through the European Regional Development Fund. Project partners include Turku Science Park (coordinator), University of Turku, Hospital District of Southwest Finland, University of Oulu and Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District.
