5th Finnish History Research Conference

The 5th biennial Finnish History Research Conference is held at the University of Oulu 24.-26.10.2019. The main organizers are the Department of History, the Department of History of Science and Ideas and the Department of Archeology in collaboration with the Finnish Historical Society.

Three intensive conference days are filled with international keynote lectures as well as several parallel sessions and other programs. The keynote lecturers of the conference are professor Herman Paul (University of Leiden), professor Heiner Fagerau (University of Düsseldorf) and professor Gunlög Fur (Linneaus University).

Organizing group: Adjunct professor Heini Hakosalo, university lecturer Markku Hokkanen and Timo Ylimaunu, adjunct professor Sirpa Aalto, professors Tiina Kinnunen and Petteri Pietikäinen and the representative of Finnish Historical Society Julia Burman.

The conference is held at the Linnanmaa campus of the University of Oulu. Linnanmaa campus is located about 7 km from the city centre. The easiest way to travel to the campus from the city centre is by bus or taxi.

The registration point is located at the central lobby near the lecture hall L2. Keynote speeches will be held at Saalastinsali, Saalasti Hall. Parallel sessions are located in lecture halls ( see the lecture hall chart ).

If you are traveling by bus please note that you can only use cash to buy the ticket from the driver (3,30 Euros) or buy a ticket via the app ( before the journey.


Busses from the city centre to the main entrance of the University (bus stop is called Yliopisto P):

1, 2, and 8 (from Kaupungintalo P bus stop)

22 (from bus stop Pekuri P)


From university campus to centre the busses leave near the main entrance of the University. The bus stop towards the city centre is called Yliopisto E.


To the Linnanmaa campus by taxi:

The address is Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu 1. The main place for taxi’s to stop at the campus is TAXI 1which is located near the main entrance of the campus, near door 2T. This is located very near the bus stop.
