Remote connection to network drives

You can get a connection to the university's network drives, among others, to your personal home directory from outside the network with OpenVPN Connect client.

Due to the increase of remote working, ICT Services have added the capacity of VPN connections by bringing into use a new eduVPN connection which can be used with OpenVPN Connect client.

If you outside the university need files which are in the university's network drives, install OpenVPN Connect client in your workstation. Instructions on the page: Remote desktops.

When the VPN connection is on, you can as a student, map (=Map network drive) your home directory using the path \\nfstu.oulu.fi\account (account is your user account). But, if you install VPN client and remote desktop connection, you can see your network drives without any mapping in Windows computer.

Instructions for the staff are in Patio: VPN connection and Remote desktop connection.

For example OneDrive, e-mail, Teams, Zoom, Moodle, as other cloud services can be used without the VPN connection.

To avoid getting the VPN service jammed, only use the VPN connection when you really need it!
