NEW UNIVERSITY LECTURER

Osmo Kauppila (Dr. Tech.) has started as a university lecturer of process and quality management in January 2017. Besides generic quality management topics his main focus at IEM is in the area of quantitative methods. The focus includes:

  • Lean Six Sigma and statistical process control, Dr Kauppila has a Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Operations research – optimisation and simulation
  • Business analytics and data science.

The education package offered in Oulu, in the area of Dr Kauppila’s position, is unique in the Finnish IEM field. Aside leaning of the university lecturer’s expertise, the education is carried out in a close cooperation with the local industry and the student guild. The cooperation will have a specific focus and will be improved continuously. Besides quantitative methods, Osmo has research interests in evaluation and in HSEQ management. He received his doctorate in 2016 and his publications include over 20 journal articles, conference articles and other scientific publications. Dr Kauppila particularly supports IEM’s research work through his knowledge of quantitative research methods. Osmo’s main hobby is chess, in which he also holds an international FIDE Master title. Besides the intellectually challenging hobby, Dr Kauppila also enjoys the Kainuu countryside in the summertime.
