The most widely used applications of microwaves are in the field of telecommunication and defense. In addition, microwave measurement methods are used in special applications in different industries. In some cases microwave measurement methods can give the best solution for a certain measurement problem.
This course will include basics of the microwave measurement theories and interaction of electromagnetic waves with materials. After that the main measurement methods are discussed in detail including several practical examples. The methods are based on resonance, transmission – plane waves and guided waves, reflection (radar) and radiometry. Also some special measurement methods are described.
Also the microwave electronics implementation is an important aspect. There are several methods like superheterodyne, direct conversion, RF sampling and self-oscillation which all have been discussed during the course.
