Sustainable use of earth´s diminishing resources by exploring more efficient utilisation of waste and side products
InStreams Hub has strong commitment to a focus in sustainable materials and systems, and a wide academic base for interdisciplinary inorganic materials research and engineering, readily combined with sustainable value chains and business. The move from wasteful economy towards circular economy is a global challenge of utmost importance, and one where Finland has set out to be the forerunner by 2025 (Leading the cycle).
University of Oulu has strong commitment to focus in sustainable materials and systems, and a wide academic base for interdisciplinary inorganic materials research and engineering, readily combined with sustainable value chains and business; a top-level infrastructure for inorganic material characterization and testing of engineered materials; experienced PIs with leading roles in H2020 projects; and strong links to the private sector ecosystems, including global players in Northern Finland.
InStreams is a strategic profiling theme of University of Oulu, funded by the Academy of Finland.
InStreams includes two broad research themes:
- The TECH research theme concentrates on the efficient, safe and sustainable use of high-volume inorganic side streams from various industries.
- The VALUE research theme focuses on creating new, sustainable business models, strategies and value chains based on these inorganic high-value side streams.
