Start Up launches the 50th Anniversary of Electrical Engineering

How to turn invention into business? Where to find investors and global markets? What does it take to become a startup entrepreneur?

Come and listen to startup stories, get inspired on the trials and triumphs of the startup entrepreneurs and discuss business possibilities in the field of ICT!

Start Up –seminar takes place on 24 April in Saalastinsali, University of Oulu main building.

The event will mark the opening of the 50th Anniversary of Electrical Engineering in the University of Oulu. The seminar is open and free of charge for all pre-registered participants. Pre-registration closes on April 15th.

In the seminar you will meet one of Finland’s brightest business angels Inka Mero, Co-Founder and Chairwoman of the KoppiCatch and new business executive, entrepreneur and seed investor of fourteen companies in the fields of online and mobile services in Scandinavia, USA and Israel. One of them is the accelerating Oulu-based startup Indoor Atlas, the founder of which, Janne Haverinen, will be joining her in the first keynote slot. Together they will tackle the possibilities and challenges of a growth businesses with research background.

The second keynote speech will be given by another celebrated University of Oulu startup entrepreneur, Zach Shelby, who only recently was awarded by Nokia Foundation as “evangelist for the Internet of Things”. Shelby’s company has hit the international markets after being acquired by ARM and in this seminar he is going to talk about expanding and growing a business to the next level, towards global opportunities.

Four further growing companies from Oulu area will be presented by their entrepreneurs, who have got their companies up and running and are now sharing their experiences with the seminar audience: Ari Takala/Codenomicon, Iikka Ellilä/Spektikor, Toni Lindén/ Kyynel, and Juuso Nissilä/SelQee.

The seminar is hosted by the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. The seminar language is English.
