Library services of University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences will be merged 1.2.2020

Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) Library will be merged with Oulu University Library 1 February 2020 due to joint internal services of Oamk and the University of Oulu. Underlying the decision were the move of Oamk to the Linnanmaa campus and the University of Oulu becoming the principal owner of Oulu University of Applied Sciences Ltd in 2018. Majority of the teaching and operations of Oamk will move to Linnanmaa by August 2020.

The staff of Oamk Library transfers to the University of Oulu. Of Oamk Library units The Library of Health and Social Care (previously Kontinkangas Library) and Oulainen Learning Centre will continue offering services under the name of Oulu University Library. Teuvo Pakkalan katu Library and Kotkantie Library will merge with Pegasus Library later in the spring and in the summer and some of Oamk Library staff members will transfer to Pegasus.

The merger of the libraries will not be visible to the customers until later in the spring and during the summer, when Teuvo Pakkalan katu Library and Kotkantie Library close their doors and move their operations to Pegasus Library on Linnanmaa campus. Oulu University Library and Oamk Library merge their collections to the same database in connection to the implementation of a new library management system next autumn.

The director of the new library organization is Oulu University Library Director Minna Abrahamsson-Sipponen and the Deputy Director Minna Koistinen, who transfers from Oamk Library. There are four service departments in the new library organization: lending and customer services, information services, information resources services and publication services.
