The LUMINOUS Research Community consists of 16 research groups and 120 researchers in three research domains:

  • Equality, diversity and change;
  • Smart structures and
  • Smart systems

Through inter- and transdisciplinary cutting edge research, all researchers aim to work toward the common goal of building sustainable Northern communities.

This requires recognizing the possibilities and challenges for sustainability, equality, equity, safety and well-being in the changing North, both for individuals and communities.

In light of these challenges, we will bridge the gaps between the life cycle of the Northern built environment and human well-being, and develop smart systems, structures and solutions  that are respecting the diversity of the North and use a participative and integrative approach.
