Pictures about the nature of North-Finland: year 2003
The severe frosts in the turn of the year was threatened to the life on top of snow cover.
When I photographed this picture the temperature was - 35°C!
There is very thin snow cover on the needles of pine, but internal (physiological) frost resistant
is very good in the midwinter time (see the text of wintertime ecology!)..
The air temperature increased already at the end of March so much that the snow began
to melt slowly... Spring is approaching, but night frosts are common, and covering of snow
can come back! Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) are already in pairs, but they can't build
the nests yet since the snowcover - also the icefree places are small-sized.
