Pictures about the nature of North-Finland: year 2003
There were big spots without snow in many light pineforests of northern Finland at the end of April.
Great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) here looking some food in the dwarf shrubs.
After 20th April started again a cold period: temperature was during the days -1 - 5°C
and nightly in many areas -5° - -10°C.
Ice-cap is melting on the Bothnian bay - shallow shorewaters are already suitable for swimming
at least to water birds (in the picture: three mallards, Anas platyrhynchos) - ice is now extremely breakable!
