The first snowfalls of this autumn are snowed almost everywhere in Finland - in south
earlier than usually. Two different ecological niches (see the text of winter!) are building up:
one niche over the snow and another under the snowcover.
The flat plants of forests (like mosses etc.) are already now in the north under the snow,
but many higher plants (dwarf schrubs etc.) are reaching out ower the snow. Soon starts
long (over half of year) episode of life under the snow also to the dwarf schrubs.
- Willow tit (Parus montanus) are looking food on the bird table, too, because
a part of forest ecosystem - the groundlayer - is under the snow.
Midwinter near to the forestline (fjeld Iso Syöte, Pudasjärvi).
(This picture is bundled up from two different shoots: a reindeer is eating
and the snowy trees.)
