Pictures about the nature of North-Finland: year 2001

In rivers of northern Finland is now the time of breaking up of ice... This picture represents Koiteli (Kiiminki river).
The water is rather brown, because the water is coming fromthe large peat bogs areas. Foto: 20.4.01/PH.

Myrtle willow (Salix myrsinites) thrives on the eutrophic fens (peatbogs), riversides and fjelds of North Finland.
This willow species are flowering in the same time as burst into leaf. In this picture pistil blossoms with nice reddish stigmas.
This photograph is taken in Oulu, where myrtle willow is not growing in the wild state.
I has been sufficient warm in this spring - so that myrtle willow will be flowering very soon in Lapland, too...
