Pictures about the nature of North-Finland: year 2001

The first snow in this autumn cames to Lapland in October, as usually, but to the district of Oulu
it cames a moment ago, 1.11.01. The weather at the coast of Gulf of Bothnia is frequently quite warm
in the autumn. Just now however the dwarfshrubs are covered by snow. But this snow maybe
will melt before Christmastime... In the picture:bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
and lingonberry (V. vitis-idaea).

The first snow in this autumn did not melt as usually. It has been some rather cold periods especially in December.
The juniper (Juniperus communis) bows under the snow weight, but will not break off. In the north - especially
in the fjelds - the twigs of juniper can be killed to drought or/and to coldness over the snowcover.
