OULU – Fastest growing region on the Arctic
Oulu is the fastest growing region of the Arctic Europe. The population of Oulu, 250,000 residents, is one of the youngest in Europe. In Oulu every third has a university degree and inhabitants are the most satisfied with their quality of life in the whole Nordic region. Oulu has two established universities. Globally Oulu is best known for its expertise in ICT.
Oulu’s location by the sea, efficient railroad and highway networks, and airport connection makes it the logistics industry’s main concentration in the Bothnian Bay area. 152 different logistics and storage companies operate in the greater Oulu area.
Oulu airport is the 2nd busiest in Finland. It serves a million passengers yearly. Oulu-Helsinki flight route is operated several times a day. Straight flights from Oulu to Luleå & Gothenburg, Sweden and Tromso, Norway are operated 5 times per week.
The Port of Oulu is the leading port for unit load and forest industry transportation in the Bothnian Bay. About 550 vessels visit Oulu yearly which makes it the 2nd busiest cargo port in Finland.
Main railroads from North to South and East to West connect at Oulu. Approximately 5 M tons of cargo is handled in Oulu yearly.
