Degree Programme in Nursing Science

Students selected to the degree programme in nursing science have nursing science as their major subject. Those graduating from the programme work as experts in demanding leading positions in social and health care in planning, development, research, teaching and management on both national and international level. The employment situation of newly graduated students has been good. By their choice of minor subjects, students can target their studies to qualify for various positions, such as director of nursing, first-line nurse manager or unit manager, or for clinical nursing work.

The degree programme in nursing science provides students with skills that enable them to apply scientific knowledge and methods, work as experts and developers in their own field and to pursue post-graduate studies. Studying involves intensive, long-term work in collaboration with the group of students and teachers. The aim is to have students work in research groups according to their individual study plans, drawn up in collaboration with their personal tutor, and if needed, the research project manager. Students get credit based on their earlier health-care degree obtained from a Nursing Institute or a University of Applied Sciences, totalling 78 - 142 ECTS credit points, depending on their earlier degree. In learning, the aim is for students to be able to analyse and examine the knowledge base of nursing science in a critical manner, and to convince their listeners of the significance of nursing science knowledge in health care and in society today and tomorrow. Learning is promoted with the use of varied teaching methods.
