Studies at University of Oulu 2015-2016

The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.

In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.

5-6 Year Degree Programmes

Health Sciences

Graduates of the field of study in health sciences become experts in demanding tasks on both national and international level. Studying in an academic community of diverse scientific fields and high standards is challenging and rewarding. Our programmes offer graduates a range of career opportunities on different professional paths in research, administration, education and planning as well as in other tasks of an expert.

The intended learning outcomes in the degree programme is to acquire a capacity for independent work, critical, science-based decision making, and the discovery of new knowledge. Studies are supported by high-quality teaching of relevant content and instruction in different kinds of environment that facilitate lifelong learning. The training prepares graduates to participate in scientific graduate studies, and the diverse and cross-disciplinary Faculty of Medicine offers an excellent starting point for research. After graduation, a very high percentage of students find employment as extensively trained experts in a variety of positions in the field of health care.

During their studies the students are asked to give feedback for each study unit, for each academic year, in connection with small group supervision and with a nationwide Bachelor’s Degree feedback form. The feedback is processed in the planning committee for education in the Institute of Health Sciences and it is used for developing the quality of study units, curriculum and education.

The degree programme is applied for through the The language of instruction in the degree programme is Finnish. Applicants have to both apply in Finnish and be able to study in Finnish. Applicants are asked to prove their Finnish language skills in the admissions process. Information on studies in English is available here.
