After completing the Master's degree, the student is eligible for applying for further academic education of licentiate degree and doctoral degree.

Those graduating from the programme work as experts in demanding leading positions in social and health care in planning, development, research, teaching and management on both national and international level.

The employment situation of newly graduated students has been good. By their choice of minor subjects, students can plan their studies to qualify for various positions, such as director of nursing, first-line nurse manager or unit manager, or for clinical nursing work. The degree programme in nursing science provides students with skills that enable them to apply scientific knowledge and methods, work as experts and developers in their own field and to pursue post-graduate studies. Studying involves intensive, long-term work in collaboration with a group of fellow students and teachers. The studies are completed according to the Personal Study Plan drawn up in collaboration with their personal tutor. The studies are integrated in research groups of nursing science.

In learning, the aim is for students to be able to analyze and examine the foundations of nursing science in a critical manner, and to be able to persuade their listeners of the significance of nursing science in health care and in society today and tomorrow. Learning is enhanced with the use of varied teaching and evaluation methods.

During their studies the students are asked to give feedback for each study unit, for each academic year, in connection with small group supervision and with a nationwide Bachelor’s Degree feedback form. The feedback is processed in the planning committee for education in the Institute of Health Sciences and it is used for developing the quality of study units, curriculum and education.
