Studies at University of Oulu 2016-2017

The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.

In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.

5-6 Year Degree Programmes

Natural Sciences

At the University of Oulu, education in natural sciences is offered between four faculties:

  • Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (Degree Programme in Biochemistry)
  • Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (Degree Programme in Information Processing Science)
  • Faculty of Science (Degree Programmes in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematical Sciences and Mathematical Sciences Subject Teacher Education)
  • Oulu Mining School (Degree Programme in Geosciences)

These four faculties offer the traditional natural sciences and the mathematical sciences. The Faculties offer an interesting variety of natural sciences to study.

Great emphasis is placed on the high quality of research, particularly international recognition. The present focus areas in research are:

  • Information technology and its applications
  • Mathematical modelling and computation methods
  • Research on genes
  • Structure and dynamic processes of the Earth and Space
  • Natural resources and ecosystems in the North
  • The structure of matter and synthetic methodology
  • Multidisciplinary environmental research
