Studies at University of Oulu 2016-2017

The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.

In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.

5-6 Year Degree Programmes

Degree Programme in Primary Teacher Education

The degree programme in primary teacher education aims primarily at functions in the learning and educational environments of basic education grades 0-6. The programme gives the student a versatile competence in pedagogy, didactics and subject mastery to encounter educational challenges in the future school.

The studies offer ingredients for the construction of a student’s own pedagogical ideology and activity, and the student is guided to an awareness of the social significance of a primary teacher’s work. In addition to the courses offered by the Faculty of Education, a student can also apply for a right to pursue studies in the study modules of five different faculties.

PLEASE NOTE! In the annual intake (100 students) to the Primary Teacher Education Programme  also includes the Creative Arts and Technology Oriented programmes. In other words, there is not any special application procedure for the latter two programmes, as the selection of students to these specially oriented programmes takes place at the beginning of the studies. The teaching is provided in Finnish.

The degree programme is applied for through the The language of instruction in the degree programme is Finnish. Applicants have to both apply in Finnish and be able to study in Finnish. Applicants are asked to prove their Finnish language skills in the admissions process.
