Studies at University of Oulu 2016-2017

The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.

In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.

Master's Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management

Studying Industrial Engineering and Management allows students to gain competence in technical knowledge and understand the economical aspects of business and managerial work. The technical background acts as a foundation for applying industrial engineering and management methods in business life. Graduates of the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management program have a good knowledge about the phenomenon in the areas where they have specialised. They have capabilities to enhance productivity, quality and well-being.   Graduates can use their knowledge when solving challenging problems related to innovation processes and production systems in all industries.  Graduates have good background for doctoral studies.

The Industrial Engineering and Management program at the University of Oulu provides courses in contemporary topics, with an emphasis on product development, statistical quality management, project business and human resource management methods. Problem-solving and communication skills, both in national and international contexts, are also a focus.

The program involves close collaboration with industry, meaning that lectures include practical cases that improve the learning experience. Guest lecturers from industrial fields are often invited to speak. Practical assignments are typically connected to practical industrial problems and challenges, allowing students to gain industry experience as they start building networks within the business world.
